7 affirmations for every loss parent

Loss mamas, loss dads: I just want to affirm you for a moment!

Family, friends, and acquaintances who have absolutely no idea what to do or say: you’re not alone!

Here are 7 simple affirmations for loss parents. We hope they are helpful to internalize if you have lost a baby, and are worth speaking over a friend if you are looking for a positive word to share.

Affirmations for every loss parent:

  1. You are already a mom, a dad.

  2. You are absolutely where you should be right now. It’s ok to be [hurt/broken/needing time/etc].

  3. They way you love your child is so powerful.

  4. You did everything you could for your baby.

  5. Your baby [insert name if they have one] is not forgotten.

  6. You are seen and loved (or do this through a gesture - a hug or hand on their shoulder, implying you are grieving with them)

  7. Your grieving matters, you are safe with me. You don’t need to hide it or speed it up.

What are some other words of encouragement and truth that have lifted you up, or that you’ve shared with your own loved ones after miscarriage or stillbirth? Comment below!

7. “Your grieving matters”
“I so often felt like grieving was an endless process. It was so tiring. I thought it would be tiring for everyone around me, so it made me want to hide. All hiding did was make me numb to life: the pains, the joys, and everything in between.
I eventually came to learn that I could live a fuller and more meaningful life by recognizing, and giving myself permission to feel all the feelings.”
